Commitment is when you agree to do something,  and dedication is when you follow through on that commitment and see it through to the end.

Commitment

Commitment is about making a promise to ourselves or others that we will see something through. It’s a vow we make that demonstrates our resolve. Once we commit to something, we are more likely to follow through because we don’t want to let ourselves or others down. It is about setting your sights on a goal and willing to put in the work to achieve it.

Dedication

Dedication, is about putting in the work day-in and day-out regardless of how we feel. It’s a choice we make to show up and do the best we can every single time. No matter what happens, we keep going because we are dedicated to our cause. It is about staying focused and committed to your goals even when things get tough.

Commitment Vs. Dedication

Commitment is something you do because you want to or because you have to. Dedication, on the other hand, is something you do even when you don’t want to or when it would be easier not to. It’s a decision you make to see something through no matter what.

When you’re committed to something, you might show up late or half-heartedly put in effort. But when you’re dedicated, you show up early and give it your all – even when you’re tired or feeling down.

Dedication requires sacrifice and self-discipline. It means making decisions that are in line with your goal, even when they’re not easy or fun. It means staying focused when everyone else has lost interest.

Commitment actually is more of a mental decision to do something.  Dedication requires follow-through and action. Dedication is usually focused on a specific goal or task, while commitment can be more general. Finally, dedication often requires sacrifice and hard work, while commitment may not.

So if commitment is doing what you said you would do, dedication is going above and beyond that. It’s giving 110% even when it would be easier to quit.

Which one is more important?

The answer is both. You need to be dedicated in order to put in the necessary work, and you need to be committed in order to stay motivated through the tough times. Without both dedication and commitment, it will be very difficult to achieve anything significant in life.
